Short notice we know, but we will be signing copies of the new Cheeky Walks in Brighton & Sussex book at City Books, Western Road, Brighton on Thursday May 3rd at 18.30.
At 19.00 we will then be taking the assembled on a short stroll round some of the nearby highlights from walks that are in the book, and possibly one or two that aren’t. It’ll be a real life sampler – imagine Martin Jarvis reading from Travels With My Aunt while you board the Orient Express. It’ll be nothing like that. But we will traverse the odd alleyway, show you a plaque or two, relate a few anecodotes and end with a glass of advocaat in the gaudiest boozer in town. It should all be over by 20.00 if you’re wondering about your dinner. Do pop along.

After a gestation period that would make an elephant need a bit of a sit down, the new volume from Cheeky Guides finally arrives at the end of April. Described by the publishers as “a revolution in walk books”, “packed with uniquely themed walks and entertaining commentary” and “printed on quite nice paper”, Cheeky Walks in Brighton & Sussex is designed for the fair and foul weather walker with routes in both town and country.

Of course, we’re having a launch party so we can get our picture in the paper* and you are cordially invited. Bring a friend, if you have one. There will be quizzes, prizes, monotonic readings, a bar and the chance for our dutiful route testers to pick up their free copy of the book. Everyone else will have to buy their own, which naturally will be available on the night at an amazing bargain price. Please come and help us celebrate this epochal event, and watch authors Tim Bick, David Bramwell and John Ashton mud wrestle to prove which of them has the best grip on slippery terrain.

Wednesday May 2nd, 7.30 till 10, at The Blind Tiger Club, 52 Grand Parade, Brighton

Cheeky Walks in Brighton & Sussex – 21 mischievous and adventurous walks on such themes as art, sex, death, Katie Price, twittens, football, and a musical visit to a ghost village.

Now that we’re all middle aged and starting to take an interest in chunky knitwear and birdwatching, it feels the time is right to create a book of healthy invigorating walks with a difference! Cheeky Walks In Brighton & Sussex will be a book of twenty five walks, each with a specific theme such as city strolls, a treasure hunt round a ghost village with a soundtrack provided by one of Brighton’s biggest groups, a trek up Sussex’s highest mountain, a Lord Lucan trail in Peacehaven, and the usual tall tales you should have come to expect by now. Imagine one of those guided tours without having to stand behind a gaggle of people straining to hear what the bloke with the furled umbrella is telling you (and each copy of the book may well come with a free furled umbrella – we haven’t quite nailed down all the cost implications of that yet). All walks will be accessible by public transport, some are town, some are country and one of them actually takes in the Churchill Shopping Centre.

We’re posting a series of trial walking routes here so you can have a go gratis, and if you want to send us photos for inclusion in the book or a bit of feedback on how it went then that would be nice too. Try to be kind though, our head walker’s a sensitive chap who likes trees and flowers.

On the right is the first free sample walk (click to download the PDF).
